Classic album of the month

The Hip Hop Spot classic album of the month of November is 2Pac's 1996 effort All Eyez On Me. It came out the year of his death. It contains two discs full of classic material such as "California Love" featuring hip hop pioneer Dr. Dre, who produced the track. Dre also displays his production skills on "Can't C Me".

One of my favorite, "2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted", which features Death Row buddy Snoop, is a true gangster anthem. "Ambitionz Az A Ridah" is also pure genius. The list goes on : "Life Goes On", "Picture Me Rollin", "All Eyez On Me", etc. I still can't get enough of "Got My Mind Made Up" featuring Dat Nigga Daz, Kurupt, Method Man, and Redman. It just is that good.

If you don't already own this album, hurry up and purchase it so your culture doesn't sink to a shameful point. Anyhow, here's the complete list of tracks on the album, in order.

Disc 1:

1. Ambitionz Az A Ridah

Dr. Dre Detox

Dr. Dre's highly anticipated album Detox is still not coming out for a while. He is working on Busta Rhymes, Eve, The Game and Stat Quo's albums so the wait isn't going to come to an end anytime soon. You can forget about hearing it in 2005. There are no songs from the album available yet, except a 1 minute sample of "The West Is Back", which seems to be Dre's attempt to reach new fans with a G-Unit type of sound... He doesn't need that shit, he already has millions of fans worldwide for his work with N.W.A. and his two solo classics The Chronic and 2001.

Golden Brett retires...

Brett Hull retired today, October 15 2005.

He announced the sad news at a press conference 2 hours before the Coyote's game against the Detroit Red Wings, ending his wonderful career in the NHL.

His 741 regular season goals make him the 3rd in all-time scoring. Only Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe have more.

Canadian talent : Rochester AKA Juice

I have recently bought Rochester AKA Juice's debut album entitled A New Day. It's pretty good, considering it's a Canadian product. The Toronto native delivers the realness talking about life in Scarborough. The album is worth checking out. Go out and buy it. Encourage the Canadian hip hop scene.

Check back, songs will be put up shortly.

Rumours were true

Rumours saying that Mobb Deep, M.O.P., Ma$e were headed to G-Unit were true... In Ma$e's new track "Check Cleared" he says :

"Yayo, Buck, Spider Loc, Banks, M-O-B-B, M.O.P., 50 Cent, y'all niggas know what it is man, don't make me wake the building up.. Check cleared one two, one two.. Check cleared one two, one two.. G-G-G-G-G-you-know-what-is nigga"

I hope this won't make Havoc and Prodigy go commercial... It would be terrible to end their great careers as Mobb Deep in such a way.

The latest news

Jay-Z might have been lying when he said he was retiring after 2003's The Black Album. In an interview with the New York Daily News, a close source to Jigga said that he missed being in the studio recording albums. Maybe it is because Roc-A-Fella Records is struggling or is it because Hov really wants to come back? Who knows... Word on the street is that his album will be hitting shelves next summer.

+ McDonald's has finally stopped trying to find ways to be gangsta. They wanted rappers to be in their commercials, they wanted the McDee's uniform to be made by Phat Farm, Sean John, or Roca Wear... and they wanted to pay rappers to say "Big Mac" in their rhymes.

Diddy

It seems as though Sean Combs has trouble figuring out who the hell he wants to be. After starting big as Puff Daddy, he changed to P. Diddy. Now, this just in, P. Diddy goes by the name of Diddy. He said he dropped the P because it was in the way. That good ol' Diddy. What's he gonna come up with next...haha.

Remember that, P. Diddy will now be known as Diddy. It's official.

His next album is scheduled for release in February 2006.

P.S. Hope you enjoy the new background. I dropped the DJ one 'cause I was getting a bit tired of it... Post your comments about the Hip Hop Spot in the brand new guestbook. Thanks.

Lil' Kim gets 5 mics

Hip hop magazine, The Source, has given 5 mics to Lil' Kim's The Naked Truth which will be out in stores September 27.
The mics is The Source's system to grade albums, one mic begin terrible, and five, a classic. Being a reader of The Source, I know how rare it is that they give 5 mics. The last time an album was given a classic rating was Scarface's 2002 album The Fix.

Damn, 5 mics... That albums is going to amazing no doubt. Five mics places the album with classic shit like Nas's Illmatic, Jigga's The Blueprint, 2Pac's All Eyez On Me, etc . She is the first female rapper to receive this distinction.

Her album review will be in The Source's October 2005 issue.

+++ Method Man is working on How High 2, the sequel to the first movie. He also plans to make a guest appearance on CSI later this year.

Meanwhile, Dr. Dre is still working on his highly anticipated album Detox that is scheduled for release sometime in 2006. The reason he's taking so much time is real simple. He ain't got time!
